Join us at the Bloomfield Library on April 6th from 10 am-4 pm for a traveling foundry pour to celebrate the eclipse! We will be pouring scratch blocks done by the Bloomfield community, but everyone is welcome to partake in this memorable event!

Scratch Block and Event Details

Scratch blocks will be $30 each (cash or check) and are available at the Adult Service Desk located on the library’s second floor. A total of 50 scratch blocks will be available for purchase during March and the start of April. Work on them at home, return them to the library on April 6th, and watch our team pour your beautiful aluminum relief sculpture. Supplies are limited, so get your scratch blocks before they run out!

We will be set up on the grass by the library’s parking lot. Fifteen scratch blocks will be poured in one go. There are 30 minutes in between pours to allow the aluminum enough time to melt to the correct consistency.

Things to keep in mind when carving at home

We suggest working on the scratch blocks outside for an easier clean-up. Any numbers or letters should be carved backward on the scratch block to make it readable/right-way around the tile. The deepest carved point on the scratch block will be the highest point on the aluminum tile. It’s best to carve out forms and thicker lines, as metal has difficulty getting into thinner lines. Do not carve more than halfway down.
